I ran across an email from last Christmas season. I received the email from a friend about Kiva. My friend helped with a loan in Cambodia to help build a home. Borrowing the description from the website, "Kiva's mission is to connect people, through lending, for the sake of alleviating poverty. Kiva
empowers individuals to lend to an enterpreneur across the globe." Basically, when you visit the website you can lend to someone in a different part of the globe - someone who needs a loan for their buisness. Someone might raise goats or sell veggies at their local market. You can learn about the person you are lending to, how they plan to use the loan, and receive updates.
When the entrepreneur pays back their loan you get your money back. It may seem like a risky investment but when you are helping to invest in someone's livihood your assistance may help them get through enough time to get on their feet again. Sounds like a gift that keeps on giving :)
Who says you can't share the holiday spirit in September?
